HAMMER SINGLE is a custom-built industrial welding machine designed for the highly productive manufacture of open vessels and tanks under high hourly workloads. It performs circumferential welding of shells and bottoms using TIG or Plasma welding technology.
In most applications, the shell and bottom can be clamped and welded without preliminary tack welding. When required, the machine can automatically perform tack welding before completing the final weld.
Welding is carried out on a copper backing pad integrated into an automatic internal clamping tool. The tool also supplies forming gas to protect the weld root. The entire production process is automated by the RCS06 control system.
Due to the complexity of the machine, it is supplied only as a bespoke project. The final technical configuration and feasibility are determined after a detailed consultation based on the customer’s products, application and production program.
HAMMER SINGLE is designed for medium-sized open vessels and tanks with diameters up to 1200 mm and lengths up to 3500 mm. Its high-quality, self-supporting spatial structure is designed for heavy industrial loads.
The left machine tower carries the spindle with the central holder for the pneumatic clamping tool. The tool is mounted on the spindle flange and includes the forming-gas distribution system beneath the weld. The left tower moves longitudinally along precision linear guides using a pneumatic cylinder.
The right spindle flange carries a pressing tool that ensures the bottom fits accurately against the shell. The right tower also includes a vertically movable pressing head, which presses the newly welded section against the copper backing pads. The complete right tower moves longitudinally along precision linear guides using a pneumatic cylinder.
The backlash-free main rotary drive consists of a stepper motor, precision planetary gearbox and toothed-belt transmission.
The pressing head has a hydraulically controlled basic stroke for adjustment to different vessel diameters. The welding pressure is generated by high-performance tandem pneumatic cylinders and transferred through CuCrZr pressure rollers.
The welding torch carrier includes an independently controlled oscillation axis.
A key part of the machine is the interchangeable clamping-tool system, which supports the welded shell and either a flat or dished bottom. One tool set can be used for vessels of different lengths, provided that the bottom type and vessel diameter remain the same.
A separate clamping-tool set is required for each vessel diameter. Thanks to central connections and the central tool holder, changing the tools takes only a few minutes.
The machine can be equipped with the HST CREATIVE CW 09 cold-wire feeder. It is fully controlled by the RCS06 system and allows extensive adjustment of wire-feeding parameters, including wire-feed reversal.
Operator control can be simplified by the optional digital Mighty Controller remote control, which increases machine flexibility and provides convenient access to key functions.
The RCS06 control system provides advanced functions for circumferential welding, including:
